This pot is exactly what I wanted. It is sturdy, beautiful, and just the right size. The handles feel very strong, and their design makes them easy to grip. I also love how the pot is wide instead of tall; that will make for easier pouring when I need to strain liquids.

My only regret is that I did not order it sooner.

The lifetime warranty from Calphalon is a bonus.

Edited to add: I measured the pot, and it is 10.5" inches in diameter (maybe ever-so-slightly less than 10.5", but extremely close) and 6.25" tall.

If I measure the diameter of the inside only (instead of from edge to edge at the top, which sort of flutes out a bit), then the diameter is 10 inches.

YAY! Just in time for fall/winter...a new stockpot! I love my Calphalon Tri-Ply SS 8 qt stockpot- it heats evenly, retains heat well, and is a breeze to clean. Also, the size is perfect. My last stockpot was a smaller circumference with higher walls (but also an 8 qt.), which forced me to have to brown meat for chili or stew in small batches (which took longer) or end up with "steamed" meat instead of "browned" due to the overcrowding in the small circumference pot. Not a problem with this pot. I can brown the perfect amount and get lovely color! (and therefore, GREAT FLAVOR!)
I was worried that I'd miss the height of my old pot, but I absolutely do not- in fact, things cook much more evenly in this pot. I steam a lot of greens- kale, turnip, mustard, collard- you name it- and with my little ancient steamer basket in the bottom they come out perfectly- tender and not mushy. I got this pot to start my own set instead of getting the Tri-Ply set with the 6-Quart pot, and I must say I think I made the right choice. The pot is beefy and easy to handle with a massive capacity. The lid cleans up easy and is great for watching the status of things cooking without interrupting them, like rice or simmering stock.

I can't recommend this pot enough if you need something in this size.

This pot, along with the 1.5 quart and 4.5 quart pots, and the 12 inch every day pan make up my entire set. They heat surprisingly evenly and are easy to clean. Get some Barkeepers Friend and never look back.
