5.0 out of 5 stars A great pan at a great price, November 2, 2003
This review is from: Cuisinart 733-30H Chef's Classic Stainless 5-1/2-Quart Saute Pan with Helper Handle and Cover (Kitchen)
This Cuisinart Chef's Classic saute pan has quickly become my favorite pan. It's huge - a full 12" across - which makes it very versatile. The pan conducts heat extremely well and is oven safe to 500 degrees. The handle is very sturdy, reasonably comfortable, and stays cool (outside of the oven, of course). The lid fits tightly. Both the interior and the exterior are very shiny and attractive. All this and it's easy to clean. Yet this pan sells for just a fraction of the sexier brands like All-Clad or Calphalon.

The chief reason for the great price is due to the construction. This is known as a "disk bottom" pan because it has a highly conductive aluminum disk embedded in its base. The really expensive brands feature "cladding", where a layer of conductive metal (usually aluminum) is embedded throughout the entire pan. Although the cookware industry loves to say that disk-bottom pans are inferior, test after test proves this claim is untrue. After all, we don't cook on the sides of... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pan!, July 29, 2003

(REAL NAME)
I'm tired of those non-stick pans that eventually lose their coating and thought that I'll try stainless steel pan for almost everything but frying an egg. Boy did I pick the right pan to start with! This pan, besides being beautifully made, is the perfect size for almost everything I cook. It's very heavy, but the helper handle helps. It conducts heat very well, so I no longer use the high setting on my gas stove or the food would burn. Despite being made in China, the quality is excellent. I'm sure it will last decades. My only complaint is that sometimes I wish the stainless steel cover is made of glass so I can see through. But, I'll still give it 5 stars because I'm very very happy with the design and quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5-Stars for the Pan...0-Stars for Amazon Packaging, August 25, 2005
This review is from: Cuisinart 733-30H Chef's Classic Stainless 5-1/2-Quart Saute Pan with Helper Handle and Cover (Kitchen)
All my Chef's Classic cookware looks and cooks wonderfully well and is normally a breeze to clean up. This Monster pan is no exception. Weighing in at close to 10 lbs., it is the senior edition of the highly rated Cuisinart 3 1/2-Qt. Saute Pan. If you have a small range, the size of this (a full 12" accross) may crowd out some other burners, so beware.

I discovered thet the dome cover for the shallow Cuisinart 12" 'everything' pan also fits this pan and thus makes it a good candidate for a dutch oven.

Now for the bad news: Amazon did not see fit to ship this within a padded box. As a result, the pan arrived with a dent in the 'dripless' rim. I will likely not return it, but will give Amazon some 'direct' feedback.

(9/15 Update): Amazon made a very positive and 'generous' response to my complaint. Thank you Amazon! Also, both the 3 1/2 Qt. and 5 1/2 Qt. saute pans are on 'super' sale. Do yourselves a favor and buy both.

Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Covered Ultimate Pan

Product Description

Designed for cooks who appreciate the best in materials and aesthetics, our Ultimate Pan has sloped sides that allow for fast rotating or stirring of ingredients. The shape is similar to a salad bowl to allow for easy tossing of food.

Amazon.com Review

Prepare sizzling Hunan beef or spicy green beans with this quality 12-inch stir-fry pan from Anolon Advanced. The stir-fry pan includes a lid to both expedite the cooking process and contain the flavors and aromas of Chinese cuisine. Constructed in hard-anodized aluminum, the pan distributes heat evenly while deflecting dents, corrosion, and other signs of wear and tear. DuPont's Autograph 2 nonstick treatment coats the pan's interior for enhanced cooking and cleaning ease. To toss frying veggies or move the dish away from the heat source, a 10-inch 18/10 stainless-steel handle is securely riveted to the pan's side. Silicone rubber coats the handle for ergonomic comfort. The clear, tempered glass lid allows the chef to monitor progress without releasing hot air or grease splatters. To remove the shatter-proof lid, a loop-style handle affixes on top of the lid's dome. enables the chef to monitor cooking progress without releasing any hot air. The pan and lid sustain oven temperatures up to 375 degrees F for rewarming contents or other baking purposes. Wash the pan by hand, taking care to avoid abrasive scouring pads and cleansers to protect the nonstick surfaces. A limited lifetime warranty covers this item. Made in Thailand, the stir-fry pan measures 20 by 11-1/2 by 7 inches and weighs 6 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

4.0 out of 5 stars a fantastic pan, March 14, 2008
By
This review is from: Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Covered Ultimate Pan (Kitchen)
This is a great piece of equipment for many cooking tasks; don't let the "stir-fry" moniker limit your uses of it. In fact, because of its large flat bottom, it doesn't quite work as well for stir-frying as a traditionally shaped wok, and the nonstick coating, while durable, means you have to be a little bit too careful when moving food around -- a true stir-fry should be stirred with abandon. But this large pan is good for all kinds of sauteeing, and because of the high sides its capacity is tremendous. Combined with the tight-fitting glass lid, one of the best uses of this pan is to make risotto for a huge crowd; it's also really nice for tossing almost-cooked pasta into a hot sauce.

A few minor notes: be aware that the pan is really very large, and quite heavy, and because of this it takes a long while to heat up. It can be hard to lift when full of food. You probably wouldn't want to use this for a side dish, to whip up a little sauce on the side, or to cook for... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST 12-inch pans for the price! A+ A+, November 20, 2009
By
This review is from: Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Covered Ultimate Pan (Kitchen)
If you enjoy cooking, you know how useful it is to have quality cookware. Cheap cookware doesn't last, nor does it perform well (uneven heating, insulated grips that get very hot, poor grip design, non-stick surface that degrades, poor lid seal, etc). You can spend $15 on a pan that may *look* nice and seem like a bargain, but then you find in a year or two you're wishing you had a better one.

The best thing is to go all out, invest a nice chunk of money, and get a major cookware set by Calphalon, All-Clad, Paderno, Le Creuset, etc. But if you're budget conscious, this is a difficult thing to do. If you're like me, you buy your cookware one pot at a time, when you find a good quality one on sale.

I bought this Anolon pan at Macys when they had a one-day sale (got it a little cheaper than here, in store). The price presented on Amazon is actually quite good, considering the free shipping. I'm very happy with it. It is a substantial pan, that rivals pans... Read more

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Covered Ultimate Pan (Kitchen)
It just arrived so I have no comments on its utility or durability. But before I forget, I want to post the actual dimensions. That would have helped me a LOT if anyone - including the manufacturer - had bothered to do so. This is a 12" pan measured across the top. It is a 6.25" pan measured across the flat bottom. The sides curve up from there, to a height of 3.25". The handle is 7.5" long, with 4.5" of that insulated.

My New Favorite thing to use in the kitchen...I reach for these before looking for lids to each pan. Plus reheating in the microwave is awesome. Very versatile! Because there so thin I can keep them close by right next to the stove. I gave them as Christmas gifts also.
